Our Autogen is a capacitor-start, capacitor-run device. Even though ours is the best on the market, no static converter will produce the quality of power that our Rotary converters provide. A motor operated at or near full-load continuously on any static converter will run hot and burn up. A rotary converter, however will allow continuous full-load motor operation. If economics keeps you from buying a rotary phase converter, an idle 3-phase motor may be operated with the Autogen to increase power with little additional electrical cost. This idea was the “grandfather” of the modern rotary converter, and still works well on many machines.
The Idle motor acts as an “electrical flywheel” to carry heavily loaded motors along, and also permits operation of small motors on a large static converter. It works best on GWM’s converters, which include motor-run capacitors to boost the idle-motor’s performance and reduce operating current.
The idle motor method should not be used on CNC, modern high-efficiency motors or other specialized equipment. Consult GWM if you have questions about your application.
